The difference between screw conveyor and screw feeder

"When buying a screw conveyor, how to choose a screw conveyor or screw feeder that meets the standard" has become a common problem in the industry, because they usually do not know the difference between the two. By understanding the difference between screw conveyors and screw feeders, the most common mistakes when designing screw conveyor systems can be avoided.

Screw Conveyor VS Screw Feeder

Screw Conveyor

Usually used to unload bulk materials from rail cars, trash bins or stacks. Generally used in cement processing plants, aggregate plants, mining, grain storage plants, feed plants, chemical plants, food processing plants, etc. The screw conveyor only needs to move the material from point A to the entrance of point B, and it is always controlled to be supplied by another device. They can be used up and down, mixing, cooling and heating materials can also be completed by standard screw feeders, also known as "transfer conveyors" in the industry.

Screw Feeder

Designed to measure bulk materials, the capacity or feed rate of the conveyor system can be precisely controlled using a screw feeder. The inlet of the screw feeder is always filled with water (100%), which is usually installed directly under the hopper, hopper or silo. In the case where the water inlet is full of water, the screw design and screw speed in the water inlet area determine the capacity or feed rate. Since the length of most screw feeders is less than 20 feet, it is not recommended to suspend the operation.

The difference between the screw conveyor and the screw feeder can be expressed in one sentence: the inlet of the screw conveyor is always in a controlled load state, and the inlet of the screw feeder is always in a full load state.

If you are interested in receiving a quote for the latest screw conveyor requirements, please contact Focus Machinery directly! You can be an agent or distributor, and at the same time, you can also provide us with answers to the questionnaire of the screw conveyor. In order to know the size of your screw conveyor correctly, and to ensure that a system that meets your needs has been designed correctly, you need to understand a few questions:

1.) What is the capacity? Is it measured in cubic feet per hour, or tons or bushels per hour?
2.) What is the length or total length of the water inlet and outlet?
3.) Is it horizontal or tilted? If inclined, what is the angle?
4.) How to load? If flood recharge is used, what is the size of the water inlet?
5.) What materials are shipped? Including material type, weight, maximum block size and temperature
6.) What are building materials? Low carbon steel, stainless steel, special paint requirements, etc.
